Hurricane Katrina Update 10/21/05:

Dear Friends,
Hooray!! We are back in our home in Pass Christian, Ms. I am sorry that it took me so long to post this update but life has been non-stop action since getting back to Pass Christian. I returned home on Oct. 3rd to find tree debris piled 30 ft high all around my house & street. I cannot believe how much work my father & my husband did to clear up the yard for our return! Thankfully after a few days the debris was removed and things almost look “normal” on my street now. I use the term “normal” very loosely as the entire landscape of our yard has changed and there is total devastation all around us. Blue roofs, FEMA Trailers, and houses reduced to mere rubble, are everywhere. You can see through our once brand new Super Wal-Mart and our charming town center is nothing but one concrete slab after another. The damage here along the Coast is unfathomable and so sad to look at.

What is uplifting to see and experience, however, is the positive spirit of our town and the plentiful array volunteers & church groups at work in our area. We are overwhelmed by the support of these selfless & caring people. They have left the comfort of their own homes & busy lives in other states to come down here and sleep in tents & trailers to help our community. Quite humbling! In fact a church group all the way from Lubbock, TX. actually volunteered to cut down & haul away trees in my sister’s yard. This is truly America at our best!

We now have Cable TV, High Speed internet & now even a Vonage cable phone for a land line. Our normal phone service will not be repaired until December so thank goodness for the Vonage technology. Cell phone service is pretty good now although we still lose our signals from time to time. We have 2 grocery stores now with an excellent selection and those are only 15 minutes away! My Mom & Dad are living with us as their home in New Orleans needs major repairs. They are using Ethan’s room until their number comes up for the FEMA trailer. It’s really nice to have them here though as the kids love to see them and Mom is a huge help to me with Bonny Babies. Ethan does, however, miss his room sometimes and wants to know “When will Gommy & Poppy give him back his room?” The best news, however, is that Ethan & Caroline are both back in school. Ethan is in Kindergarten & Caroline was accepted into preschool even though she isn’t fully potty-trained. (What a relief!) Both children are loving school! I knew Ethan would but Caroline is a very young 3 and totally joined at the hip. I am amazed each morning when she says “I go to school please?” and when she comes home and says “I had fun school!”

Bonny Babies is fully operational & running smoothly! However, since my shop/office in Bay St. Louis, Ms. is no longer inhabitable I have moved Bonny Babies operations back to my home where it first started. I am fully stocked and shipping most items directly from here in Pass Christian. Personalized gifts and larger items such as the Bumbo Seat, Big V Pillow & Eurobath will continue to be shipped direct from the manufacturer just as they were pre-Katrina. Please check the individual product pages as delivery times do vary by product.

Hurricane Katrina Update 9/18/05:

Dear Friends,
Well, it's been almost 3 weeks since I last updated. Life has been rather hectic to say the least. My mother & I are still in Kissimmee, Florida with my 2 children and my niece. My Dad visited us last week and had some time away from the devastation and then he returned to Mississippi and my husband & my sister came here late Saturday night. It was so nice to see them after 2 weeks apart. They have been working hard in Pass Christian, MS. cutting up fallen trees, and fixing our well & power meter which were both damaged by Katrina.

We amazingly have power & water at our house now . Still no other services though and our yards are a disaster zone with many fallen trees & debris. No word on when we will have telephone service much less cable/Internet. We cannot return home yet as in addition to the above problems there are only a handful of stores 20 miles away where you can buy groceries & supplies. Those are not fully operational yet and have unbelievable long lines just to park and get in the store. Schools are not open either but we have the kids on a wait list at one of the few schools that sustained minimal damage and we are hopeful there will be a place for them in Mid-October when they hope to reopen.

Hurricane Katrina Update 8/31/05:
Dear Friends,
My family & I thank you from the bottom of our hearts for your numerous calls & emails offering prayers & support. My husband, our 2 children & I have safely evacuated to Lake City Florida with my sister, her daughter & my mother. My dad is still in Mississippi, but we have heard from a neighbor that he is safe. From what we understand our house in Pass Christian on the Mississippi Gulf Coast is still standing. Apparently there is complete devastation all around us but somehow our little cul-de-sac was spared the major brunt of the storm surge. We are so grateful to all be safe!
We cannot return home, however, as there is no power, water, gas or basic infrastructure in our area. There are also no schools for the children. We are looking to temporarily relocate to Orlando & set up a home & business there. In the meantime, however, please be assured that Bonny Babies is still fully operational. My manufacturers have generously agreed to directly ship merchandise to my customers for me until I am able to get settled into an apartment and carry stock again.
Bonny Babies is essential to my family’s livelihood now more than ever. I thank God that I am fortunate to have a business that I can operate from another city. Unfortunately my sister’s retail shop is located in New Orleans and most likely it will be under water and non-operational for many months. I will therefore be supporting her & my niece indefinitely also.
I sincerely appreciate your continued patronage of Bonny Babies. Please share my site with your friends & relatives as in addition to helping my family rebuild our lives you will be helping others in need as well. My husband & sister are heading to the Miss Gulf Coast tomorrow to bring in desperately needed supplies for our neighborhood.
Thanks again so very much for your support. Please keep all the victims of Hurricane Katrina in your prayers. I will keep you posted on our progress.
Most Sincerely,
