Hurricane Katrina Update 10/21/05:
Dear Friends,
Hooray!! We are back in our home in Pass Christian, Ms.
I am sorry that it took me so long to post this update but life has
been non-stop action since getting back to Pass Christian. I
returned home on Oct. 3rd to find tree debris piled 30 ft
high all around my house & street. I cannot believe how much work my
father & my husband did to clear up the yard for our return!
Thankfully after a few days the debris was removed and things almost
look “normal” on my street now. I use the term “normal” very loosely
as the entire landscape of our yard has changed and there is total
devastation all around us. Blue roofs, FEMA Trailers, and houses
reduced to mere rubble, are everywhere. You can see through our once
brand new Super Wal-Mart and our charming town center is nothing but
one concrete slab after another. The damage here along the Coast is
unfathomable and so sad to look at.
What is
uplifting to see and experience, however, is the positive spirit of
our town and the plentiful array volunteers & church groups at work
in our area.
We are overwhelmed
by the support of these selfless & caring people.
They have left the comfort of their own homes & busy lives in other
states to come down here and sleep in tents & trailers to help our
community. Quite humbling! In fact a church group all the way from
Lubbock, TX. actually volunteered to cut down & haul away trees in
my sister’s yard.
This is truly
America at our best!
We now have
Cable TV, High Speed internet & now even a Vonage cable phone for a
land line. Our normal phone service will not be repaired until
December so thank goodness for the Vonage technology. Cell phone
service is pretty good now although we still lose our signals from
time to time. We have 2 grocery stores now with an excellent
selection and those are only 15 minutes away! My Mom & Dad are
living with us as their home in New Orleans needs major repairs.
They are using Ethan’s room until their number comes up for the FEMA
trailer. It’s really nice to have them here though as the kids love
to see them and Mom is a huge help to me with Bonny Babies. Ethan
does, however, miss his room sometimes and wants to know “When will
Gommy & Poppy give him back his room?” The best news, however, is
that
Ethan & Caroline are
both back in school.
Ethan is in
Kindergarten & Caroline was accepted into preschool
even though she isn’t fully potty-trained. (What a relief!)
Both children are
loving school! I knew Ethan would but Caroline is
a very young 3 and totally joined at the hip. I am amazed each
morning when she says “I go to school please?” and when she comes
home and says “I had fun school!”
Bonny Babies is fully operational & running smoothly!
However, since my shop/office in Bay St. Louis, Ms. is no longer
inhabitable I have moved Bonny Babies operations back to my home
where it first started. I am
fully stocked
and
shipping most items
directly from here in Pass Christian. Personalized
gifts and larger items such as the Bumbo Seat, Big V Pillow &
Eurobath will continue to be shipped direct from the manufacturer
just as they were pre-Katrina. Please check the individual product
pages as delivery times do vary by product.
